Klark Kent becomes Superman

Hello Community!

I shall commence with this Tuesday past in this installment of “The Life and Times of Zach.” Last tuesday four participants spearheaded an Educational Activity Day on the extremely broad topic “ThE eNvIrOnMeNt!” To be honest, it wasn’t so much of an educational day, it was more of an activity day. To be truthful, I was not one to complain. To be blunt, I had a blast! Instead of siting inside all day we sat inside for part of the day, and then we went on a hike for three hours! This trail happened to be marked red on the trail map (just to give some perspective of the extreme nature of this trail!!!) When I saw that I knew the day was looking up. It was more like an ad (activity day (no mom, not a-d-d)) than an ed. the trail demanded that my fellow adventurers climb over elephant sized roots, maintain traction on water slicked leaves, and even walk on water… You may have thought walking on water was impossible, think again. When you have Cuban women and big Canadians, anything is possible! To be a liar, one masculine Cuban carried one feminine Cuban across the raging torrent of water… Once we were sufficiently wet on the other side, our tour guide toured us to the site where John Muir used to live. He only lived in the Meaford wilderness temporarily, but at that time the place was turning into a scared and baren landscape. Apparently, it was here where he found his inspiration to push for a National Parks Service in the U.S., and to create the Sierra Club. To find out more about Senor Muir click here.

Here is the problem: as far as I read in the Holy Wikipedia it does not mention him ever going to Canada. Please do not trust the Holy Wikipedia, it knows not what one of the participants host fathers told us. One suggestion, cut and paste “John Muir lived in Meaford for an undefined period of time” into Wikipedia. Problem solved. I Love Wikipedia!

Right, onto the news. This past week, Wednesday to Friday (thats right, a week. Yikes!), was the CWY Cuba2 project mp. The 18 participants participated in team balancing activities, team insert people through “electric fence” activities, and dancing which ranged from dry ice to raging inferno. This reporter most enjoyed climbing trees (10), having his camera lens pecked by a chicken person, quacking at duck people, and being chirped at while going for a walk in the beautiful Ontario poplars. This reporter felt that the mp was a success in the following areas: problem resolution / unity creation with counterparts, socializing with other participants and watching great movies supplied by project supervisor Ikem. Mid project could have been better in the following areas: quality of sleep! There are not many occasions when one truly gets to say shut the ____ up! This was one of those times. (don’t worry mom, the Cubans understand that I only wanted them to shut the ____ up, we are still best of friends!)

Today was school. Lately I have been feeling a little like Clark Kent, but today I felt like Superman! Shortly after the first break of the day ended my muscular services were needed. A small child’s leg was stuck inside a bike locking device. If you are desperate to know how this happened you can ask me to draw you a picture on a napkin when I return (for reals)!!! Anyways, short story long, a buff teacher and I pulled the steel apart to free his leg. That was the highlight of my day. I don’t know what it says about me, but I felt much more usefuller pulling apart steel than I did teach a children read to write.

In an acorn, that was my week!

Love to all and keep your extremities safe!

p.s. mp = mid project :-)

    Oh Zach,
your experiences are so truly rich that I cannot imagine how you have the energy to even write about them! I must say that I like to say: “I must say”…but also that you must draw me a napkin picture of the burly rescue event (please!). Perhaps I could frame this picture and let it decorate my house when i move out sometime in the future - and I permit you in advance to climb about that house.
    Homie love,
    Isaac
